Getting to Siquijor without losing a day

No direct flights. The two usual routes: Manila or Cebu to Dumaguete (DGT), then OceanJet or Aleson fastcraft to Siquijor Port (₱400–₱550, 1 hour). Alternatively Cebu to Tagbilaran/Dumaguete and ferry from Bohol — longer but skips Negros entirely.

Motorbike or tricycle tour?

Motorbike rental is the move if you have a valid license. ₱400–₱500/day, full gas about ₱200, loop the 72-km perimeter in a relaxed day. Tricycle full-day charter is ₱1,800–₱2,200 if you're a group of 3–4 or can't ride.

The loop, counterclockwise from Siquijor Port

  1. San Juan beach stop (30 min) — Coco Grove vicinity; long pale beach good for a pit-stop swim.
  2. Cambugahay Falls (1.5 hours) — 4-tier waterfalls, ₱25 entrance, rope swing ₱50. Morning is less crowded.
  3. Century-old Balete tree (20 min) — 400-year-old tree with a fish foot-spa pool underneath. ₱10 entrance. Slightly gimmicky but the tree itself is genuinely magnificent.
  4. Lazi Convent + Church (20 min) — 1884 limestone structure, one of the largest convents in Asia.
  5. Salagdoong Beach (2+ hours) — resort beach on the east side with cliff-jump platforms (5m and 10m). ₱100 entrance.
  6. Bandilaan Nature Park viewpoint (30 min, optional) — hilltop views; the road up is rough.

Food stops that earn the motorbike detour

  • Monkey Business (San Juan) — honest burgers and Mediterranean plates
  • Baha Ba'r (Solong-on) — driftwood beach bar, banana mojitos, mellow vibe
  • Marco Polo Bakeshop (Siquijor town) — pan de coco and bibingka for breakfast
  • Ate Vic's Dining (Dumanhug) — lechon manok and grilled tuna belly, ₱200 plate

Where to stay

Stay on the west side (San Juan) for sunsets and the beach-bar scene. Coco Grove is the polished choice (₱6,500+/night); JJ's Backpackers is the budget pick (₱700/night dorm). Casa de la Playa has a few bungalows right on the beach for ₱2,800.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to rent a motorbike for Siquijor?

Strongly recommended if you're comfortable riding. The island is best experienced via its coastal road. If you're not, a tricycle charter for the day works.

How much is a 3-day Siquijor trip?

₱8,000–₱12,000 per person all-in off-peak including flights MNL → DGT, ferry, 2 nights accommodation, motorbike, food, and entrance fees.

Is Cambugahay Falls safe for non-swimmers?

The top tier has shallow pools; the second-tier (swing) is deeper — you'll want a life vest (included in entrance). Rope swings drop you in about 2m of water.

Best time to go to Siquijor?

February to May for sunshine; October for fewer tourists and lower prices. Avoid July–September rains and Holy Week (hotel rates triple).

Can I do Siquijor as a day trip from Dumaguete?

Technically yes, practically no. The ferry eats 2 hours round-trip and you'll rush the loop. Stay one night minimum.
